 Classical Ballet Conservatory
The RCSPA Ballet Conservatory Program begins at age 6. Our exclusive program is based on the American Ballet Theatre teaching curriculum. A  yearly evaluation is required for correct level placement. The Conservatory training program has a logical progression with an emphasis on creative movement, expression and technique. Additionally, students learn dance history, vocabulary, injury prevention, and stage hair & make-up. Level 2B and higher are eligible to participate in Master Classes taught by guest faculty as well as accompanying faculty on field trips to watch local and national dance troops.

1 A/B Beginning  (Blue)

At this introductory level students are taught basic movements, including arm and feet positions, body posture and alignment.  Additionally, focus is on strength development, flexibility, coordination and musicality.  Character class is introduced at the early stages as character class allows the dancer to experience a more free flowing movement derived from classical ballet folk dances all while nurturing the proper epaulment, arms and feet positions. This level meets once a week for a technique class and a character class

 2A Advanced Beginner (Pink)

Having mastered basic movements and positions students moved into Level 2A will begin to focus on turns, precision jumps and demi-releve positions with two 75 minute technique classes a week. Continued focus on strength development with the addition of Pilates for Dancers.  Character classes are continued and mastered at this level.  This level meets twice a week for technique and once a week for character.

2B Early Intermediate (Pink)

At level 2B the student has demonstrated the strength, flexibility, coordination, technique and musicality to begin approaching more complex combinations, floor/barre work as well as turns & jumps.  Proper technique must be in place as the class moves at a steady pace with less emphasis on beginning details.  A pre-pointe class is introduced to strengthen and prepare the student for beginning pointe work.  Additionally, students start Ballet Basics, a non-movement class that teaches ballet history, technical terminology, vocabulary, physiology, as well as, hair, make-up, and sewing.

3A Intermediate (Black)

Students progressing to the 3A level have mastered all basic technique and have a thorough understanding of ballet positions, can handle moderate barre and floor combinations and have a general turning and jumping ability.  Flexibility, strength, musicality and coordination are highly focused on at this stage.  Students that demonstrate the appropriate strength will be placed on pointe.  Full curriculum must be taken to be placed on pointe as the student has to maintain a high level of strength and focus to prevent injury.  Students in level 3A are eligible to apply to be a student assistant in order to assist/demonstrate in lower level classes.

3B   Intermediate-Advanced (Black)

The 3B level is for the student that is working on complex barre, floorwork, footwork, jumps and turns.  Mastery of all beginning and intermediate level work is necessary as well as extensive knowledge of technical terms and vocabulary.  Technical ability must be able to sustain complex choreography.  Additionally students must exhibit flexibility and strength necessary for this level.  Pointe work is mandatory as well as participation in master classes.  Students in level 3B are eligible to apply to be a student assistant in order to assist/demonstrate in lower level classes.
